Assessment Research has highlighted the importance of frequent, accurate, and timely assessments. While much attention has been given to district-wide benchmark assessments, research shows that classroom-based assessments are the key to formative use of data to adjust instruction (Wiggins, Reeves). Assessment breaks down into two core practices – Assess (using multiple measures) and Analyze (student mastery and instructional practices). Assess While standardized testing provides one measure of student performance, other measures are necessary to provide teachers with the insight to adjust their instructional practice. Given that teachers assess students on a daily basis through assignments, prompts, and performance tasks and use this information to make changes to their instruction, it is important to ensure that the “data” collected from these assignments is accurate and aligned with standards. Edgenuity leverages all forms of student assessment from grades to testing that enables districts to compare and monitor student mastery on multiple measures. By looking at multiple measures on an ongoing basis, teachers can better evaluate student achievement while a specific concept is being taught, and better allocate scarce teaching time to address the specific needs of their students. | | Analyze A report of test results does not constitute analysis. Using test results to identify gaps in student learning is not sufficient to improve instruction. Good analysis is predicated on accurate data and requires an understanding of the causes for results – not just reporting the results. To ensure accurate data across multiple measures, Edgenuity assists districts with calibrating the results across testing, grades, and performance rubrics to identify potential discrepancies in expectation and to rectify errors in the data. At the same time, Edgenuity works with districts to understand the causes of student gaps by correlating the data from classroom observations of instructional strategies with student outcomes. Based on the analysis of the results, teachers can dynamically group students within their classrooms, schools can identify students for re-teaching or enrichment, or schools can place students that are far below basic in intensive intervention programs. | Learn more about how Edgenuity’s Assessment Edge solution for measuring student performance and instruction can help you establish a path to predictability.
